Location
Central Dalmatia
Split is the largest city on the Dalmatian coast and the main starting point for many gulet charters. Built around the 4th-century Diocletian’s Palace, the city blends Roman architecture, busy waterfront energy, and a modern Mediterranean lifestyle.
Arriving by yacht, the first impression is the long curve of the Riva promenade, backed by stone façades and the bell tower of Saint Domnius Cathedral rising above the old town. Split is bigger and more dynamic than most stops — it’s urban, lively, and full of movement.

Where You’ll Spend Time
Most yachts dock along the Split Riva or in ACI Marina Split, located across the harbor near the base of Marjan Hill.
The historic center is compact and entirely walkable. Diocletian’s Palace isn’t a separate monument — it forms the core of the city itself, filled with cafés, apartments, shops, and restaurants woven into Roman walls.
In the evening, the Riva becomes the focal point. Locals and visitors gather along the waterfront, and the old stone streets stay active well past sunset.
Things to Do
Explore Diocletian’s Palace
The palace complex dates back to the 4th century and remains the heart of Split.
Inside you’ll find:
The Peristyle Square, the central Roman courtyard
The Cathedral of Saint Domnius, built within the emperor’s mausoleum
Underground palace cellars
Narrow alleys lined with wine bars and boutiques
It’s one of the most impressive historical sites on the Adriatic.

Walk Up Marjan Hill
Marjan rises just west of the old town and offers shaded walking paths and panoramic viewpoints over the harbor and nearby islands.
From the top, you can see the entire Split coastline stretching toward Brač and Šolta.
Swim at Bačvice Beach
A short walk from the center, Bačvice Beach is known for shallow water and a lively daytime atmosphere.
For quieter swimming, small coves beneath Marjan offer clearer water and fewer crowds.
